Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event, Great Yarmouth’s Venetian Waterways has confirmed that its annual Mascot Race will be returning on Thursday 30th May 2024 – during this year’s Spring Bank Holiday half term.

The whacky and wonderful charity event is set at the attractions Boating Lake, at the north end of the Waterway’s seven-acre gardens and will see a number of heats with well-known characters from local attractions pedalling to win the coveted Mascot Race trophy.

Local families and holidaymakers are invited to enjoy the free event and cheer on their favourite mascots, with the Island Café providing a range of free arts and craft activities for children to participate in. There will also be live music from local singer Simon Faye and their usual delicious offering of coffee, cakes and savoury snacks.

Lee Brown, Community Champion at the Waterways said:

“After a fantastic first event in 2023, we’re going one better and creating an even bigger joy spreader for the local community. Not only are we raising money to support the continuing upkeep of this unique free to visit the attraction, but we’re also giving other local businesses the opportunity to highlight their attractions or services. You can expect a great atmosphere, lots of laughs and plenty of boating lake drama!”

All monies raised from the event will support the upkeep of the grade II listed heritage park, of which regional charity Access Community Trust are the current custodians.

Originally built between 1926-1928 and authentically restored after receiving a £1.7m National Lottery grant in 2019, the free to access seafront attraction remains a firm favourite with visitors and boasts acres of plants and wildlife.
