The Venetian Waterways in Great Yarmouth raises the prestigious Green Flag Award after achieving the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The iconic Venetian Waterways in Great Yarmouth have been awarded the significant Green Flag Award, an international mark of quality for parks and green spaces. This esteemed recognition highlights the exceptional standard of the Venetian Waterways, celebrating its beauty, sustainability, and the invaluable efforts of its dedicated garden team, volunteers, and the custodians of the site, Access Community Trust.

The success of the Venetian Waterways is largely attributed to the tireless efforts of its team, whose expertise and passion have transformed the area into a thriving oasis of natural beauty. However, it could not be done without the help of its growing dedicated volunteer base that generously gives its time and energy to the 7-hectare site.

Both the gardeners and the volunteer’s commitment to preserving the historic charm of the waterways while integrating sustainable practices has created a harmonious balance between heritage and modern environmental care.

“We are incredibly proud to receive the Green Flag Award,” said Ian Guest (Head Gardener), Access Community Trust. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our team, volunteers, and the charity as a whole. The Venetian Waterways are a cherished part of our heritage, and this award celebrates their ongoing significance and the community’s commitment to their preservation.”

Custodians of the park, regional charity Access Community Trust, have also played a pivotal role in the revitalisation and ongoing success of the Venetian Waterways. Throughout their stewardship, they’ve begun new initiatives and programs, engaged the community, and fostered a sense of ownership and pride among residents. Not only do they oversee the maintenance of the site, but they also manage the Island Café and Boating Lake, a popular daytime destination that boasts tranquil views, community events, boat hire, and an exciting food and drinks menu.
